Chiropractic Care

What is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is a holistic, drug-free, non-invasive, hands-on therapy that diagnoses and treats: muscle, joint, spine, and nervous system issues that affect the body's movement. Chiropractors will focus on treating the root cause of symptoms to allow the body to regain its function.

How are Chiropractic Care and Osteopathy Different?

  • Although osteopathy and chiropractic care were both invented in the late 1800's and operate under similar principles, their primary techniques developed in slightly different ways.

  • Chiropractors will frequently use 'manual manipulation' on the spine and joints, which is characterized by high-velocity, low-amplitude thrusts that release tension in the joints to create motion. While chiropractors also use soft tissue and stretching techniques, patients may find the overall treatment to be more energetic in nature.

  • Manual Osteopaths will frequently use 'joint mobilization' on the spine and joints, characterized by deeper and sustained pressures that open up joint spaces to relieve tension. Manual osteopaths also use: stretching, soft tissue, cranial, and visceral techniques, patients may find the overall treatment to be more relaxing in nature.

Which Therapy Should I Choose?

  • Since both therapies work to accomplish the same goals and occasionally involve similar techniques, it is difficult to recommend one over the other. If you can afford the time, receiving both forms of therapy may yield better results than just receiving one.

*Please note that Chiropractic Care is offered 5 days/week at the Etobicoke location; Eglinton Chiropractic Centre
